YOU DON’T NEED TO WAIT TO HAVE 3 MISCARRIAGES TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
I guide and support you to get the tests you need and to prepare your body to maximise the chances of having a successful pregnancy.
Experiencing a miscarriage, regardless of how long it took to conceive, is devastating. You envision your entire pregnancy, and then in a moment, it's all gone.
SOME STATISTICS..
About 50-60% of all pregnancy losses are due to chromosomal abnormality. Most of them happen randomly. It’s a 2-5% of these that are actually due to a traslocation in the parents DNA, known by karyotyping (genetic blood test of both of the partners).
The other 40-50% can be for many different reasons: Thyroid issues, clotting or autoimmune disorders, insulin resistance, hormonal imbalances (i.e. low progesterone), infections, lifestyle factors…
It’s not unusual to be told that miscarriages are very common and that there's nothing you can do unless you have 3 or more losses. There are different reasons why this is NHS guidelines. One of them is because only 1% to 3% of people having a miscarriage will continue to have recurrent losses. But what if you can lower that percentace?
But is there anything you can do?
Absolutely! Let me explain it…
Optimise your health
Working on improving your overall health is essential. My approach is based on longevity research, focusing on enhancing your epigenetics (the part of the gene that can be modified through lifestyle and nutrition). This could potentially reduce the risk of miscarriages caused by random chromosomal abnormalities and those caused by certain hormonal imbalances.
The aim here would be to:
Improve egg and sperm quality, by helping your body’s natural detox process and adding the right nutrients to your diet.
Reduce insulin resistance and increase metabolism if applicable.
Reduce cellular inflammation by improving inmune system function.
Balance hormones, with specific nutrients, managing stress and optimising sleep.
Functional testing
Some common reasons for miscarriages are easy and unexpensive to test for, and they can have easy treatment:
Vit D, Thyroid panel, HbA1c, hormonal imbalances among others. They can be personalised depending on your situation and needs.
I offer reliable and affordable testing, done within NHS hospitals and reviewed by functional doctors. Most of the tests only require a home finger prick and only a few of them might need a venopunction (usually done in your local area).
Parental Karyotyping. Genetic testing of both parent’s. This is usually done after a abnormal fetal cytogenetic test or when the fetal tissue is not available.
Lupus Anticoagulant and Cardiolipin (Antiohospholipid symdrom, (APS)). They can increase the risk of blood clots. At least 15% of recurrent miscarriages occur as a result of APS, and it is now recognised as the most common, treatable cause of recurrent losses.
Specialist testing
